ATV driver causes $5,000 damage to fairway at volunteer-operated Inuvik golf course

Amount of damage eats up season's full maintenance budget

June 1, 2023  By Turf & Rec

A fairway at an Inuvik, N.W.T. golf course was damaged earlier in the week by the driver of an off-road vehicle, leaving about $5,000 in damages.

The president of the Inuvik Golf Association has asked ATV drivers to use proper trails and keep off golf course property.

It’s expected the cost to make repairs will drain the full amount of what was budgeted for maintenance. Maintenance and operations of the six-hole golf course are done by volunteers.

The vandalized second hole will be levelled and reseeded with hopes progress will be realized by the end of July.

The golf course at one time consisted of rocks and gravel, but later was grown to grass on its greens and fairways.

Police have no leads so far on the culprits.
